The idea: To encourage students to come up with innovative solutions everday problems. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Chancellor Mata Amritanandamayi Devi thought about setting up research centres. Academic-turned- entrepreneur and University Vice-Chancellor P Venkat Rangan then started Amrita TBI.

Benefits to startups: Infrastructure, mentorship, seed funding, platforms to test and deploy solutions, access to multidisciplinary research laboratories and international expertise.

Progress: 72 startups incubated. 20 graduates. The incubator has received funds from various government institutions.

Success stories: On Thursday, the incubator bagged a national award for best technology business incubator from the department of science and technology. Amrita Technologies provides comprehensive hospital information systems, which are used in 30 installations in India and the US in hospitals with over 2,000 beds. Preksh Innovations is a visual commerce solution provider which brings real-life shopping experiences to consumers. It won the second place in K-Grand Challenge in South Korea among 2,400 teams from 120 countries.
